AIU Online Instructor - School of Business

Dr. Amber Gravett is an international business leader with an adventurous heart, entrepreneurial spirit, and a high level of expertise in business improvement methodologies including Six Sigma, LEAN, and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). With experience in finance, technology, toys, and education she draws upon all of her attributes and skill sets to teach International Business and Leadership & Ethics for Managers at AIU Online.

Dr. Gravett began teaching in 2001 for another university. She joined AIU in 2003 shortly after completing her Ph.D. in Business at another University. She was attracted to online teaching for several reasons. "I like the concept of taking education to the learner. The course structure at AIU Online also lets me immediately incorporate events from the world at large as well as my own travel and business experience into the class. Last, but certainly, not least, I very much believe in the school's goal of offering the opportunity for education to those who would otherwise be denied."

Currently a Vice President in the Corporate Operations division of Washington Mutual, the fourth largest bank in the United States, she has worked as a Six Sigma and development consultant and has held marketing and management positions with Compaq, Apple, and Western Union. Amber also has two U.S. patents for innovative credit card products and systems.

Her academic credentials also include a B.A. in English from Loyola University, a Master of International Management from Whitworth College, and a host of professional certifications including a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Amber is regularly featured as a speaker at international business conferences including past engagements in South Korea, Argentina, Mexico, and China.

Working alone or with her husband, she writes articles on consumerism and operations. Her work has been featured in Business Week, Inc. Magazine and several business journals. In one of these articles, "Where is Your Business on the Insistence Scale?" Dr. Gravett makes the point that, "Customers always had, and always will have, choices. Dissatisfaction with goods and services results in spending migration, compounded with ease of access to competition." She feels that AIU clearly recognizes this business concept and has developed several advantages over the competition that serve students and faculty extremely well. "AIU Online's Online Library and communication environment absolutely lead the industry," declares Gravett.

On a personal note, Dr. Gravett enjoys teaching at AIU Online because it not only allows her to "give back" to other professionals, but fits in so well with her multi-dimensional lifestyle. Her hobbies and special interests add flavor to her work as well. A serious drummer and scuba diver, Amber also loves to travel and has even taught online classes from Antarctica. But teaching online is not only convenient, it allows her "to open up the world to others, no matter where they are, so they can achieve their own dreams of success."
