Hot Trends in Careers - Business

A degree in business is a foundation for many successful careers. Although a business degree - whether it's an Associates, Bachelor's or Master's degree - isn't industry-specific, any of those degrees provide a great springboard into the industry of your choice.

When you graduate with a degree in business, you've had a broad exposure to all elements that make an organization function like a well-oiled machine. While a business degree doesn't have a specialization such as a finance degree, it is valuable in its generalist approach.

In the field of business administration management, educational requirements vary, depending on the size and complexity of the organization. Small organizations are more likely to value experience, and may tend to promote from within for management positions. Large organizations tend to hire from outside for management roles, and each position has formal education and experience requirements.

Graduates who have earned Associate's degrees are generally eligible for entry-level office jobs in the areas of accounting, human resources, customer service, sales, or in general administrative functions.

Those who have graduated with Bachelor's degrees have many opportunities for entry into the business world in the fields of management, marketing, finance, accounting, human resources, economics, etc. Graduates of a four-year program have earned the analytical skills and general understanding of business to succeed in any number of positions.

With over 1 million undergraduate students entering the workforce each year, the expectations of employers has risen dramatically. Although your degree is valuable, business is an area of study where educational upgrades - whether it's a seminar, or an advanced degree - are crucial in order to remain competitive.

MBA candidates have the best chance of stepping directly into a higher level role, and can expect to be given management responsibility, and perhaps an entry into the executive suite.

Those who succeed in business careers of the future will have a commitment to higher learning, an interest in improving analytical skills, and an ability to think globally and creatively when developing business solutions.
