1. Asking your boss's wife if she knows anyone who is hiring.
2. Badmouthing your present job. No one likes a complainer.
3. Sending a mass email to all your contacts that says "Dear ____, I need a job. Send me all your contacts ASAP."
4. Using the goofy email name (e.g., HotGirl) that amuses all your friends, but sends the wrong impression to potential employers.
5. Confusing a networking event for a singles party. Don't mix business with pleasure!
6. Skipping the thank-you note.
7. Openly criticizing your target company and offering ideas for improvement. You never know who you are offending.
8. Fibbing about a contact. ("Mary gave me your name.") When the truth comes out, you'll lose not one but two contacts.
9. Inserting the wrong company or contact name in a follow-up letter.
10. Not networking at all!
